Journalist and author Yoko Inoue presents her book: The Third Time — an investigation into how a society thrives by working less. Writing the book began as an attempt to understand a paradox: how Denmark works some of the shortest hours in the developed world, yet remains one of its most competitive — and consistently happiest — societies. The answer, the author found, was not purely economic. It lay in how Danes treat time — working efficiently enough to prosper in fewer hours, and using what remains in ways that feed their happiness. Released in Japan in December 2025, The Third Time soon became a bestseller. However, at present it is only available in Japanese.
In her presentation Yoko Inoue would like to explain what draws her to Danish society after years of living in Japan and the United States. She will also talk about what has moved Japanese readers most about life in Denmark, what happens when she posts about Danish society on social media in Japan and the reactions that come back. Finally, she will tell us what she actually recommends to Danish friends when they visit Japan.
